NPS is Moving! …or trying to
It’s taken over two years, but we finally found the place that was meant to be the home for Nether Providence Soap Company. Some of you are aware that I’ve been looking for a studio space so I can reclaim the house from the business which has taken over space much needed for growing boys (and for us to escape them some times).
I can never seem to do anything the easy way. The new space isn’t a traditional commercial property. There won’t be a store front that will be open regularly but expect there to be a small retail area and special events once everything is settled. Local pick-ups will happen there (and continue at farmer’s markets) and you’ll see some changes to our labels because labeling laws require we list where products were made. I’m still the one who will be doing the making.
The new studio will be located in a home that was built in 1890 and has been used as a dance studio and residence since the 1960s. I’m determined to dig up all the history (and photos!) that I can about the property and will be documenting everything as I settle into the new space. If you’d like to follow along with the updates and what will be happening in the new studio, I started an Instagram account specifically for it and will likely add a side blog here. [ETA: blog link]
In order to do this, I’m going to need some help from my community out there. Not only does the building need some critical work done (electricity, plumbing, HVAC, & roof), we need to make the space into a proper soap lab which means I will also need equipment and appliances. I have a wish list of items that will be needed sooner or later. (Meanwhile, if you know any local restaurants that need to sell some equipment, send them my way! I may be able to use some of it.)
To help fund all of this work I’m running what is essentially a round of crowdfunding right here from August into September. I have some new products and specials available for pre-order that will be shipped out (or available for pick up) during November in time for the winter holidays. There are also some specials in addition to my regular products available for immediate shipping in the regular store.
Thank you in advance for your support. I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without you!
